Violence at Howe Community Park Wounds 4 People Shot in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade

Sacramento authorities are examining a gun violence incident that broke out Saturday night April 18 at Howe Community Park as deputies were dissolving an unsanctioned gathering of several hundred people.

What Led to the Shooting

Law enforcement first arrived at the park just after 6:30 PM after being notified of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Soon after, a second caller reported mentioning a potential altercation occurring at Howe Park.

An overhead unit searched from above but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Despite this, authorities discovered that several hundred individuals had come together at the location without permission.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Officers set about removing people from the park by surrounding the park and issuing commands over loudspeakers instructing the crowd to disperse at once. Around 15 minutes were allotted for the gathering Howe Park Sacramento gunfire to break up.

As the crowd was being cleared that upwards of 20 gunshots cut through the air. The barrage of gunfire caused mass panic. Law enforcement swiftly started locating gunshot victims.

The Shooting Victims

Altogether, four victims were located with gunshot injuries. All four — including a female and three males all reportedly in their early to late twenties — were rushed to area medical facilities. Medical teams noted that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one had moderate injuries, and one had injuries classified as minor. Thankfully, each of the four victims was stable.

Metro Fire Sacramento assisted at the location and aided in treating the injured at the park.

Physical Evidence

The main crime scene appears to have happened along Cottage Way alongside the local Home Depot located at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Investigators located additional spent rounds along Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were also found in the wrought iron fence bordering the Home Depot. The physical evidence suggested that at least one of the shooters had been firing southward from along Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot building and parking lot. That Home Depot location was secured under a brief lockdown during the incident. Crime scene personnel continued working throughout the night.

Suspects Detained

Details gathered over scanner radio traffic showed that a Kia vehicle had been stopped in Solano County. Four occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Deputies were heading to pick up the four detainees to bring the suspects back for investigation. Video evidence revealed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
